Ornament Hooks

Because they're not widely used in Norway, It was really only a couple of years ago that I discovered ornament hooks. You know, those swirly pieces of wire, sometimes adorned with beads or thinner wire, used to hang ornaments instead of plain old, boring string of some sorts.

They can be bought on eBay, but I wanted to make my own, to be able to customise them more for each ornament. I found inspiration for several different kinds on Pinterest, just search for ornament hooks or ornament hangers.

Over at The Ornament Girl I found a good tutorial and a couple of examples for pretty, swirly hooks. She calls the tool you need to bend the wire needle nose pliers or round nose pliers, but where I'm from the closest thing I've found are called lock ring pliers, the straight kind that is round tipped and doesn't traumatise the wire you're bending.

So get your jewelry wire, about 1mm/18 gauge thick, your beads and your pliers for bending and cutting. Then just look at different hooks online, cut, bend and bead your wire, for really pretty ornament hangers!

I made 167 hooks in 18 different designs for this project, some I haven't seen anywhere else on the internet. Please come back every day in December to see my Harry Potter themed Christmas Ornaments and a lot of pretty, swirly, beaded hooks!

Just two more days now, then the true magic begins! Please stay tuned!
