When planning this DIY Harry Potter themed Christmas tree advent calendar, I found my inspiration mostly from Pinterest, Google and Etsy. It soon became obvious that I'd have to make most of the ornaments myself, either wholly or at least partly. Buying all the craft supplies needed in a Norwegian craft store would be ridikkulously expensive, but thankfully, there is eBay! You can get all kinds of stuff off eBay, for almost no money. The only thing is, most of the stuff comes from China and shipping can take up to a month, so planning well in advance is advisable.
There were only a few things I got from somewhere other than eBay, the actual Christmas tree was one of them. Normally, I don't even want to touch a Christmas tree that isn't an actual Norway spruce, but for the first few years of her adult life, I thought an artificial one would be most practical for my girl. I actually got her tree as a free welcome gift from a book club, all I have to do is cancel every "book-of-the-month" for a year. The tree is 120cm tall and have a 100 small lights attached.
She will have the tree as her December 1st advent calendar gift, and every day thereafter a few more or less home made Harry Potter themed ornaments until Christmas eve. This blog is a tutorial/guide on how to make all these ornaments, and if you wish, your very own Harry Potter Christmas tree!
I don't want to spoil the ornaments I've made just yet, but
here's a list of general craft supplies that I bought:

I am fortunate enough to have an extremely handy husband, who has his own fully stocked workshop for metal, wood and car-repair work, and on a couple of occasions that really came in handy. I'm aware that very few have the same opportunity, but it's definitely possible to make all these ornaments without a workshop.
Please come back tomorrow for a post on light boxes and blog photography!
