For today's Harry Potter Christmas Tree Advent Calendar Ornament I did something really quick and easy. A little while back I had purchased an inexpensive, used Wizard's Chess Set on eBay, like the one you see in the image below. In my opinion, it's not quite nice enough to have on display, and I'm not a chess player, so I decided it would come to better use as ornaments for my daughter's Harry Potter Christmas Tree.
The chess pieces are made of a slightly bendy plastic material, so I took one of each piece in each colour, and just screwed one of my teeny tiny eyelet screws into each of the chess pieces. I didn't even have to pre-make holes for the screws. The chess pieces are rather large, so I added a little different type of ornament hooks for these.
After I had finished these, I discovered that my favourite Harry Potter DIY tutorial people over at EPBOT had done something extraordinary with the exact same chess pieces, just look at this! Their finished chess pieces look absolutely gorgeous, but that would have taken me forever! Besides, as I said, the plastic is slightly bendable, and I imagine it'll be really easy to flake and destroy that beautiful paint job, if the pieces aren't left completely still. Kudos to the folks over at EPBOT, though!
