We already have the tree with LED-lights and the nice silver wicker basket stand, and the Gryffindor scarf Christmas tree Garland. For December 3rd, it was time to start with the actual Harry Potter themed Christmas tree ornaments. And what is more natural than to start with Harry Potter's Hogwarts Acceptance Letter envelopes?
I bought parchment-looking inkjet paper from ebay, but you could also stain white paper with a wet teabag and some instant coffee grinds, you'll find lots of tutorials by googling, just make sure the paper is dry and flat before printing. I used this envelope template and resized and modified it a bit to fit my needs, to make Acceptance Letters 6 cm by 4,5 cm, fitting a smaller Christmas tree. The actual image I used is shown below:
I'm not very good at image editing and those kinds of things, so to get the address onto the envelopes, I pasted the above envelope image into a Word-document, created a text box with Harry Potter's address, rotated, resized it and put it on the envelope image in the correct place. Each A4 parchment paper makes two Acceptance Letter envelopes. I chose green print for the address, since that's what they've done in the movie. After printing you just need to cut (inside the black lines so they get cut away), fold, stuff some folded paper in to make it look like the envelope holds a letter (I didn't bother to make actual, miniature letters) and glue together. For hanging, use either silver or gold thread and attach to the paper stuffing before cosing the envelope with glue, or make a sort of angled eyelet from wire and put it in the envelope before closing it, and use an ornament hook. I opted for the second solution, because I think ornament hooks make the ornaments so much prettier. You can probably see what I mean in the image below.
In this tutorial you can find the font to use for the print on the actual envelope, the exact address, and how to make something that looks like a wax seal for the back of the envelope.
I already had dark red sealing wax and a stamp with the letter H, so of course I went with that. The wax seals are rather fragile after they dry, so you'll need to be very careful with the ornaments for the wax seal not to break and fall off. Maybe making something sturdier wouldn't be such a bad idea, even though it's more time consuming.
I made a total of 8 Acceptance Letter ornaments, for the third day of my daughter's Harry Potter Themed Christmas Tree Advent Calendar.
