For today's Harry Potter Christmas Tree Advent Calendar Ornament I had decided on the Sorting Hat. But it turned out to be quite difficult to find something usable, neither for purchase nor as a DIY.
I found this tutorial, but frankly I don't think the finished product looks good enough, and I don't really have the time to do what it takes to make the hats look as authentic as I'd want. I see that some people has made really nice Sorting Hat ornaments from clay, but I believe that would also take a very long time.
I ended up buying some rather small Sorting Hat pendants from eBay, but by making larger, more heavily beaded ornament hooks I still think the ornaments as a whole are eye-catching enough to deserve their spots on the tree.
On Pinterest I found this other fun idea to make a Sorting Hat ornament more attractive. Someone has attached a wire with beads in the colours of the four Hogwarts houses, to four separate Sorting Hat pendants. Clever and nice, don't you think?
I felt that my finished ornaments looked good the way they turned out, though, so I decided against using this idea, but below I give you my December 6th Harry Potter Christmas Tree Advent Calendar Ornament, the Sorting Hat:
